Tutor: Doreen Taylor
Date and Time: Mondays, 1 pm - 3 pm (7 March - 4 April)
Cost: £53 (5 week block)
Get into your stride, build your confidence, and stretch your imagination!
The first class will be an introduction and conversation between everyone, to put us all at our ease. We will begin with simple exercises, so that you can get your writing-brain in-gear without too much thought involved. We will then introduce visual aids such as arty postcards, which will be distributed to the group and participants will be asked to comment on the first thing that comes into your heads, making a short story of the photo/picture.
We will expand our creativity with exercises in which, for example, participants are given an out-of-context inspiration, such as, "the sun was shining as she stepped off the bus..." and, from that, invite you to create your own personal narrative. This really allows your imaginations to soar!
Poetry will be introduced later within the 5 week course, especially Haiku, which is less challenging for those embarking on writing creatively for the first time. Towards the end of the 5 week slot, short story writing will begin. At every stage of this short course, the tutor will also participate by reading out her offerings. This is a convivial part of the class, as everyone gets the chance to shine for a while and share their ideas.
The 5-week block will be followed by further blocks to help you develop your creative potential.
