Monday 26th June 2023 - 30th June 2023

5 Day course

9:30am - 4:30pm each day

All materials and a daily light lunch provided

This five-day workshop will bring body, mind and soul into alignment with a focus on making art in the moment. It will teach the basics of colour theory and mixing pigments, as well as the practice of pouring acrylics and incorporating other materials into the picture space.

The meditative and chromotherapeutic qualities of both the method and the media will be explored; for example, you will be encouraged to source colour inspiration from the chakras, from a birth stone or other crystal that suggests meaning or healing, or from intuition alone.

Learning to trust your innermost creative urges is central to the practice of mark making, as is remaining open to inspiration and influence from nature and the outside world.

The workshop culminates in a day focused on composition: how to bring all this together to produce several unique works of art that will facilitate your artistic mindfulness practice at home. This class is suitable for all abilities: the beauty of paint pouring and mark making is that embracing happenchance and going with the flow—quite literally—produce the most effective results.

Nothing is wasted in this sustainability-conscious class, with instruction given on how to creatively reincorporate paint overspill and other artifacts of the process.

About Joanna Wilson

Joanna Wilson’s art is a paradox of thoughtful drawing and exuberant expressionism. An award-winning artist of international acclaim, she grew up in Grantown-on-Spey before work and study took her far and wide, from the Hayward Gallery to Yale University.

Her abstract figurative paintings sell on saatchiart.com and can be found in private and public collections all over the world. But coming back to the place where it all began—and sharing with others the aspects of creating art that make life a little better—is what brings her the greatest reward.
