About Laura: I am an artist making ceramic sculpture. I’m inspired by things that I see in my daily life and often begin my pieces without any fixed idea and let the clay start to take its own shape. I also enjoy reading and bringing my imagination into what I make. Figural themes often recur in my work, sometimes single figures or figures in pairs. Pieces are often smoke-fired or left as naked clay, sometimes embellished with gold leaf. I currently have work on display at The Milton Art Gallery in Banchory and in Scottish Potters’ Association’s ‘Stories’ exhibition at The Barony Centre in West Kilbride (7 May – 11 June). I’m mostly self-taught, although I’ve attended many continuing education courses learning about a variety of media and approaches to making work. I have both arts and social sciences qualifications, as well as over 25 years’ experience of working in formal and informal education settings, including as an organiser of art workshops in the heritage sector. I currently work as a distance learning tutor and live in Moray.
