Join Leonora for this talk and demo on miniature art. Saturday 4th June 10:30 am - 12 pm £5 Come along and learn about these pocket-sized works of art for yourself. Learn about their history and the basis of how to create your compact creations. If this demo piques your interest, join Leonora on the 12th of June from 10:30 - 4:30 for a full-length workshop. All materials included) During this hour and a half, Leonora will explain: History of the genre The rules of miniature art Supports for drawing and painting Preparing surfaces The equipment/materials to use Framing Selecting a reference Scaling it down Composition Starting the drawing Shading Tonal values Painting in watercolours Negative painting The talk will comprise a short history of miniature art, the rules for miniatures, support for drawing and painting, how to prepare surfaces such as canvases, equipment, and materials that should be used, and how miniatures should be framed. The demo will be a short demo on how to sharpen pencils and Leonora will do a piece of a drawing, demonstrating how to achieve fine details and tonal values. She will also do a little bit of painting in watercolours which will demonstrate some negative painting. Answering any questions you may have. About Leonora: "I am an award-winning artist , miniaturist, and art teacher from South Africa, where I have been teaching adults art for the past 15 years. I have won awards in South Africa, the USA, the UK, and Bangladesh for my miniatures as well as my larger artworks and have paintings and drawings in private homes as well as corporates around the world. I have been on various committees as chairlady, vice-chairlady, secretary, and member. I have arranged painting holidays/ retreats in South Africa and led art cruises in Croatia. ( I have another one planned for August this year). I have helped with preparing and setting up exhibitions, and have been a judge for several exhibitions."
